Job ticket 925015 · consumer · session desk · no subscription
Headspace prints no free tier. The script was never the expensive part.
The subscribe page offers 7 days free on monthly, 14 on annual — then US$12.99 a month or US$69.99 a year for the guidance. But a session script that meets your actual state is composition work a free-tier model does from three lines you paste. You read it to yourself, at your pace, and keep it as a file.
Headspace is a trademark of Headspace Inc. This is an independent, unaffiliated comparison built on Headspace's own published subscription page, linked below and re-read every thirty days. This page is not therapy and writes no medical guidance.
The session desk — rendered in this browser
Sample data is illustrative, not a claim about Headspace. Every Headspace figure on this page comes from the linked pricing page, read 2026-09-28.
The prompt pack
Two prompts, each mapped one-to-one onto a Headspace feature you are currently rationed on. Run them from this page with a free key, or copy them into any free chat model — the text is identical either way, and it is printed in full at the bottom of this section so it survives this site.
Loading the pack from tools.json… If this fails, the full prompt text is still readable below.
One-time unlocks only, never a subscription. If a price ever appears here it was read from Stripe in that request, not typed by hand. An unlock is client-side gating, not secure payment verification: it is stored in this browser and cannot prove payment to anyone else.
What Headspace's own pricing page says
Read from headspace.com — subscribe on 2026-09-28. Fields we could not read are marked unconfirmed rather than filled in with a plausible number.
| The job | Headspace's page (read 2026-09-28) | What it costs | This page + a free-tier model |
|---|---|---|---|
| A standing free tier | Not printed — trials only | US$12.99/mo after trial | US$0 — scripts without an account |
| Guided sessions | Recorded library, subscriber-only | US$69.99/yr (annual) | A timed script from your pasted state |
| Sleep & wind-downs | Sleepcasts, subscriber-only | US$69.99/yr | A seven-minute descent from your day |
| Narration & music | Licensed audio in the app | US$5.83/mo (annual) | You read it — your voice, your pace |
What this replaces, and what it does not
A displacement claim you cannot substantiate is a lie with good typography. This is the whole scope, including the parts where Headspace wins.
Scripts as files
A complete timed script per run, exported as text — read it aloud, load it into any screen-reader, or print it for the bedside.
Your state stays yours
Nothing is stored, logged or streaked. No account, no session history, no reminders.
Your pace rules
You set the minutes; the timing marks must add up to them. Rushed mornings and long nights both fit.
Not a meditation app
No recorded voices, music, sleepcasts or streaks. Headspace's library is real; this desk writes scripts.
Not therapy
The desk guides attention and stops. It names professional support in one plain line when your state calls for it, and never explores crisis content.
No clinical claims
Nothing here diagnoses or promises outcomes. It is a written guide for ten quiet minutes.
The prompts, in full, as text
Copy these into any model. They are the product; the page around them is convenience. Each block is the exact system prompt the interactive runner sends, plus the user-message template.
Prompt 01 — 1. Session script writer · headspace-session-writer v1.0.0 · best ally: OpenRouter — :free model variants · openai/gpt-oss-20b
Replaces: The guided sessions the trials gate: your pasted state becomes a complete, timed, speakable script — settle, breath, body, close — paced to the minutes you actually have.
Why this model: A session script is long calm composition under a strict clock; a mid-size free instruct model at low temperature holds the pacing marks and the second-person voice without drifting into advice-giving. Fallback ally: Google Gemini API — Free usage tier.
System prompt (1714 chars):
You write the session: the reader pastes their state of mind, the minutes they have, and what the session is for, and you return a complete guided script they can read aloud to themselves — settle, breath, body, close — with timing marks that add up to the minutes given. You write in second person, present tense, short sentences. You guide attention; you never diagnose, prescribe or promise outcomes, and you treat grief, panic and trauma as reasons to suggest a professional, in one plain line, not as content to explore.
Return ONLY one JSON object. No markdown fences, no commentary, no preamble.

"title": string (max 8 words),
"blocks": [
{ "type": "h2" | "p" | "ul" | "callout" | "todo", "text": string, "items": [ string ] (only when type is "ul" or "todo") }
]
}
Hard rules:
1. Return blocks in this order: an h2 titled 'Session — [minutes] minutes', p blocks for Settle, Breath, Body, Close, and a final callout naming the one thing to notice afterwards.
2. Open Settle in the first 10 seconds: posture, eyes, one line of permission to arrive as you are.
3. Breath gets the middle third: counts are explicit ('in for four… out for six') and repeat enough to fill the time — write the repeats out, do not write 'repeat as needed'.
4. Body walks attention head to feet in one pass, naming parts in plain words, releasing nothing dramatized.
5. Close returns the room: one sound, one shape of light, eyes opening on the last 30 seconds.
6. Timing marks in square brackets ([0:00], [2:30] …) must sum to the stated minutes; count before you finalize.
7. No diagnosis, no medical claims, no 'this will cure'; one line pointing to professional support if the pasted state names crisis or grief.
User message template:
Variables:
{{state}}— Your state, your minutes, the goal (max 800 chars) sample data shipped with the tool{{notes}}— Include / avoid (max 300 chars) sample data shipped with the tool
Output schema (the answer must match this exactly):
Decoding: temperature 0.4 · max 2200 output tokens · responseMimeType application/json · budget ~250 in / ~1,200 out for a 10-minute session · cost per run: 1 request against a free OpenRouter daily pool; the relay floor needs no key at all.
Prompt 02 — 2. Wind-down writer · headspace-wind-down-writer v1.0.0 · best ally: Google Gemini API — Free usage tier · gemini-2.5-flash-lite
Replaces: The sleepcasts and wind-downs in the paid library: a seven-minute descent to sleep written from your actual day, not a generic beach.
Why this model: The descent is a precise, low-variation composition: your day in, progressively slower sentences out. A free Flash-lite at low temperature slows the prose on schedule without going sentimental. Fallback ally: OpenRouter — :free model variants.
System prompt (1418 chars):
You write the wind-down: the reader pastes a line or two about their day and you return a seven-minute descent to sleep — sentences that get shorter and slower on schedule, attention drifting from the room to the breath to nothing in particular. Second person, present tense, nothing to achieve. If the day holds something sharp, you set it down in one gentle sentence and do not open it.
Return ONLY one JSON object. No markdown fences, no commentary, no preamble.

"blocks": [
{ "type": "h2" | "p" | "ul" | "callout" | "todo", "text": string, "items": [ string ] (only when type is "ul" or "todo") }
]
}
Hard rules:
1. Return blocks in this order: an h2 titled 'Wind-down — seven minutes', then p blocks timed [0:00] to [7:00], each with its timing mark.
2. Minutes 0–2: the room and the body — sheets, weight, temperature — in full sentences.
3. Minutes 2–5: sentences shorten; attention moves to breath; counts appear ('in… out…') and stretch.
4. Minutes 5–7: fragments only — three words, then two — ending without a conclusion. Do not write an ending; the silence is the ending.
5. One gentle sentence sets down the sharpest thing in the pasted day; it is not opened, explored or resolved.
6. No advice, no to-do lists, no 'tomorrow you will'. Nothing in this script is a task.
7. Repeat words on purpose in the last two minutes — repetition is the point, not a flaw.
User message template:

Questions worth asking before you cancel
Headspace has free content, doesn't it?
Some introductory content has historically been free in the app — but the page we read prints no free tier, only trials. We quote the page, dated 2026-09-28, and displace from there. What the trials gate is the full guidance library.
Is reading a script as good as a guided voice?
It is different: your voice, your pacing, no phone required after the page loads. What you lose is production — music, narration, sleepcasts. What you keep is the script, forever, as a file.
What if I'm in a bad place mentally?
The writer's rules are explicit: crisis, grief and trauma get one plain line pointing to professional support — not a script that explores them. This page is a writing tool, not care.
Where does my state go?
Nowhere. No account, no storage, no analytics beyond the site beacon. Paste, render, download, clear the tab.
Does it work without an API key?
Yes. Copy the printed prompt into any free chat model, paste the JSON answer into the relay box, and the desk renders it exactly the same way.
