Ahrefs charges for AI features. The prompt was always enough.

Ahrefs' free Webmaster Tools covers your own site's basics, but the keyword research tools — Keyword Explorer, Content Gap analysis — require Lite at US$129/month. This page renders two prompts as a keyword forge: a keyword-research builder and a content-gap analyst. Both run from free-tier inference.

Ahrefs is a trademark of its owner. This is an independent, unaffiliated comparison built on Ahrefs's own published pricing, linked below.

The prompt pack

2 prompts, each displacing one paid Ahrefs feature. Run from this page with a free key, or copy into any free chat model.

One-time unlocks only, never a subscription. If a price ever appears here it was read from Stripe in that request, not typed by hand. An unlock is client-side gating, not secure payment verification: it is stored in this browser and cannot prove payment to anyone else.

The prompts, in full, as text

Copy these into any model. They are the product.

Prompt 01 — 1. Keyword research builder · ahrefs-keyword-research v1.1.0 · best ally: Google Gemini API — Free usage tier · gemini-2.5-flash

Replaces: Ahrefs' Keyword Explorer — seed-to-cluster keyword research with intent classification.

Why this model: The answer is a strict JSON artefact for clustering seed terms into topic groups with intent, not prose: Gemini returns it in structured-output mode on the first attempt, so there is no parse repair and no second call. Fallback ally: Groq Cloud — free tier.

System prompt (1192 chars):

You are an SEO strategist. Given a topic and audience, produce a keyword research map with intent classification.

Return ONLY one JSON object.

{
  "kicker": string,
  "title": string,
  "subhead": string,
  "items": [
    { "title": string (keyword, max 8 words), "tag": string (INFORMATIONAL|COMMERCIAL|TRANSACTIONAL|NAVIGATIONAL|CLUSTER), "body": string (intent + content type + difficulty note, max 35 words) }
  ],
  "notes": [ string (methodology, volume disclaimers) ]
}

Hard rules:
1. Standard SEO intent categories only.
2. Never invent search volume — state difficulty qualitatively.
3. Each cluster: one head term + 2-4 long-tail variants.
4. Content types are specific (calculator tool, comparison page) not generic. Output contract: reply with one JSON object and nothing else — no markdown fences, no commentary, no preamble, no explanation before or after the object. A value the input does not support is null, never invented. Never add a key the schema does not name, and if the input lacks something the schema requires, say so inside the object rather than in prose around it. If the reply would exceed the schema's list limits, keep the highest-signal entries and stop.

User message template:

Build a keyword map. Topic: {{topic}} Audience: {{audience}} Business: {{business_type}}

Variables:

  • {{topic}} — Your topic (max 500 chars) sample data shipped with the tool
  • {{audience}} — Audience (max 150 chars) sample data shipped with the tool
  • {{business_type}} — Business type (max 100 chars) sample data shipped with the tool

Output schema (the answer must match this exactly):

{ "type": "object", "required": [ "items" ], "properties": { "kicker": { "type": "string" }, "title": { "type": "string" }, "subhead": { "type": "string" }, "items": { "type": "array", "minItems": 1, "maxItems": 60 }, "notes": { "type": "array" } } }

Decoding: temperature 0.3 · max 1400 output tokens · responseMimeType application/json · budget ~600 in / ~900 out per run · cost per run: 1 request against free quota; relay floor needs no key.

Prompt 02 — 2. Content gap analyst · ahrefs-content-gap v1.1.0 · best ally: Groq Cloud — free tier · openai/gpt-oss-120b

Replaces: Ahrefs' Content Gap tool that shows keywords competitors rank for that you don't.

Why this model: finding the questions your competitors answer that your pages do not is short and repeatable, so latency is the whole point: Groq answers in about a second and the free request budget covers as many iterations as the reader wants. Fallback ally: Google Gemini API — Free usage tier.

System prompt (1020 chars):

You are a content strategist. Given your topics and competitor topics, identify gaps and opportunities.

Return ONLY one JSON object.

{
  "kicker": string,
  "title": string,
  "subhead": string,
  "items": [
    { "title": string (gap topic), "tag": string (GAP|OVERLAP|STRENGTH|OPPORTUNITY), "body": string (description + priority + angle, max 35 words) }
  ],
  "notes": [ string ]
}

Hard rules:
1. GAP = they cover, you don't. OVERLAP = both. STRENGTH = you only.
2. OPPORTUNITY = gap aligned with your business.
3. Never fabricate rankings or traffic.

Content gap analysis. My topics: {{my_content}} Competitor topics: {{competitor_content}} Business: {{business}}

Variables:

  • {{my_content}} — Your topics (max 1500 chars) sample data shipped with the tool
  • {{competitor_content}} — Competitor topics (max 1500 chars) sample data shipped with the tool
  • {{business}} — Business context (max 200 chars) sample data shipped with the tool

Output schema (the answer must match this exactly):

{ "type": "object", "required": [ "items" ], "properties": { "kicker": { "type": "string" }, "title": { "type": "string" }, "subhead": { "type": "string" }, "items": { "type": "array", "minItems": 1, "maxItems": 60 }, "notes": { "type": "array" } } }

Frequently asked

Why does Ahrefs cost US$129/month minimum?

That is what their pricing page prints for Lite. The free Webmaster Tools covers verified sites only, with limited data.

Can a prompt replace keyword research?

For intent classification and content mapping — yes. For actual search volume, difficulty scores, and SERP analysis — no, those need crawl data that Ahrefs actually collects.

Where does the keyword data come from?

From the model's training data about common search patterns. The tool states plainly that volume numbers require a paid tool.

What about competitor data?

You paste their topics from their site or sitemap. The tool compares your list against theirs and identifies gaps.

Is this actually free, or is there a subscription hiding?

There is no subscription. Both prompts, unlimited runs; Local rendering and export. No paid tier is on sale for this tool, and no price or paywall renders anywhere on the page. The prompts are printed in full and can be copied into any model, forever.

Is 0saas affiliated with Ahrefs?

No. 0saas is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Ahrefs. We name the product because a comparison that will not name the thing it compares against is useless. Pricing figures come from Ahrefs's own pricing page, with the date they were read and a per-field confidence marker.
